The Shenandoah Valley is a welcoming place for refugee families. Most of our clients are resettled in the Harrisonburg City area, but we have worked with families Rockingham, Shenandoah, and Augusta counties as well. This area is an attractive resettlement site because of the affordable housing, diverse and welcoming community, and the abundance of entry level jobs in the poultry, agriculture, and hospitality industries.

Many new arrivals are surprised to find themselves in a small city like Harrisonburg. Their only experience of the United States may be from movies or television featuring cities like New York, Los Angeles, or Washington DC. Clients frequently tell us that the scenery here is much greener than they were expecting, and that the city is quiet, peaceful, and safe. Others who come from mountainous areas often remark that the mountains here remind them of home.
