Lewam’s story

Lewam's Story

Aug18 2023

Lewam works as a case aide at the CWS Harrisonburg office. Her position involves a wide range of responsibilities, from “taking clients to their appointments, to grocery shop, setting up a house…going over their papers, like letters and stuff like that, and helping case noting” Lewam said. Usually the type of work “depends on the week, or whether the case managers are receiving clients” she explained. Lewan’s favorite part about working at CWS are the people. “Every time I come in in the morning, everybody’s just making me smile. We smile, laugh together, and do work” Lewam said.

She originally arrived in the U.S. as a refugee from Eritrea, and through her time in school studying social work, Lewam discovered her passion for helping those in need. Lewam explained, “I’m interested in helping people, meeting new people from all over the world, and learning while doing my job.” Overall, Lewam is dedicated to aiding those who’ve been displaced. “Why I decided to work with CWS is because I love helping people and meeting people. Like I said, it just makes me happy, personally. And I love the job and I want to grow with it” she said. Thank you Lewam for your incredible work at CWS Harrisonburg. We can’t wait to see what you accomplish next.
