Library Field Trip

Library Field Trip

July 6 2023

Saturday, June 17th, refugee families in the community went on a tour of Massanutten Regional Library. Deborah, CWS Harrisonburg’s School Liaison, helped organize the tour. She's planning multiple field trips in the coming months to introduce refugee families to fun activities in the Harrisonburg community. The library field trip was the 2nd event, following their trip to the Explore More Discovery Museum for kids. Deborah explained, “the field trips are to help parents find fun and educational activities for their children to do in Harrisonburg."

Members of the library staff led the tour, in which they described resources available to the public at the library, where collections are located, and how to sign up for a library card. Deborah mentioned that “almost everyone at the tour, including adults and kids, were able to sign-up for a library card.”

After the tour, the group stayed for a live concert in the library. “My favorite part of the trip was seeing the kids smiling and having fun. Especially during the concert, a bunch of them were sitting at the front together, laughing and just enjoying the violins and other instruments,” Deborah said. Access to local resources like the children’s museum and local library are integral to helping refugees feel at home in Harrisonburg. Thank you to the Massanutten Regional Library for helping our refugee neighbors learn more about the library!
